63jili If you found ‘Nosferatu’ scary, then you are in for a treat with ‘Wolf Man’

The year 2025 is going to be great for classic horror-inspired modern movies that pay tribute to the past or are inspired by it, especially the Universal Monsters like The Mummy, Dracula, and The Wolf Man, among others. I couldn’t be happier with this outcome because I think we all need a break from the excessive gore in horror films, which I would describe as sick horror. These types of demented movies do little to refine the tastes of audiences and instead desensitize them with their blood-soaked, gross-out scenes and nightmare-fueled moments. I draw the line there. Not for me, but the “Wolf Man” is definitely up my alley.

I think there is more attention given to the Golden Age of Hollywood when it comes to the beginnings of what was then called “Horror.” If you show those movies to the current generation, they will not find them scary at all; in fact, they will most likely laugh at them. However, if they had developed a refined taste in movies, they would surely recognize that the Universal Monsters were the hallmarks of their time and that they influenced generations of filmmakers.

Such is the case with the 2024 ‘Nosferatu,’ which is a remake of a remake of a remake. This means it is not entirely based on the original novel and its first film, which was shown in black and white but has undergone several interpretations. However, the central character, the focus of the movie, and the namesake of the film, “Nosferatu,” is still depicted similarly, albeit modernized to some degree. The film turned many heads, opened many eyes, and made people shift from the usual horror norms. When compared to ‘Nosferatu,’ those films seem inferior, for lack of a better term.

Anytime you create a movie with the finesse, class, and dedication of ‘Nosferatu,’ you will surely win people over, even the most stubborn moviegoers. Let us all admit that “Nosferatu” is the ugliest vampire, but at least he does not sparkle. Haha. Yes, for sure, “Nosferatu” is scarier than those kinds of vampires. Haha.

Now, from ‘Nosferatu’ to ‘Wolf Man.’ If you have not yet seen the official teaser trailer, movie trailer, and behind-the-scenes footage for ‘Wolf Man,’ you should watch them. ‘Wolf Man’ promises to be a well-crafted production, utilizing practical effects, traditional filming methods, and a strong cast. Rising actors like Julia Garner, who will portray the female version of The Silver Surfer in the upcoming ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ are excellent choices for the main cast in the ‘Wolf Man.’ We need actresses who can convey their emotions on screen and connect with the audience, especially in this case, where a mother is trying to protect her daughter from being murdered by an abomination, a creature of darkness and a once assumed myth turned reality.

The man who will become the “Werewolf” in ‘Wolf Man’ is portrayed by Christopher Abbott. He represents a blue-collar type of person, someone relatable and empathetic. However, when he transforms into a monster, all those positive qualities disappear. This scenario is common in past “Werewolf” movies, where ordinary individuals become monsters. It is the transformation after being bitten that changes everything about them for the worse. Can you imagine being in his shoes if werewolves were real, and the only way to become one is by being bitten? In a way, it is passing on a curse. If werewolves were real and you turned into one, there would be people who would either try to kill you or capture you for study.

Sometimes fiction can reflect reality, as history has shown. Therefore, the idea of werewolves having existed at some point in human history is not far-fetched. The premise of ‘Wolf Man’ is interesting, to say the least, because they may continue to exist in some remote corners of the world that are still rural, unexplored, and far from civilization. This all adds to the appeal of this upcoming movie for sure.

I found it interesting how the actual “Wolf Man” appears here. He does not look like a full-blown werewolf, but rather someone in the middle of the transformation. He resembles a person with a severe skin disorder mixed with someone who has been bitten by a werewolf; he looks sick but filled with anger, rage, and an unrelenting will to kill. Can you imagine showing this depiction of the classic Werewolf in the decade of its origin in cinemas? Oh, man, you would have some people either running out of the theaters or puking in their popcorn buckets! Haha.

On a more serious note, Blumhouse Productions has demonstrated its ability to handle the classic Universal Monsters uniquely, giving them a realistic look while preserving the essence that has made these monsters appealing for decades. More importantly, they hire the right people for the job, such as Leigh Whannell, who directed ‘The Invisible Man’ (2020). That movie was excellent from start to finish, ingeniously exploring the concept of a real invisible man through modern technology. If anyone has ever imagined being invisible or having a cloak of invisibility, it was captured in this movie. With Leigh Whannell directing ‘Wolf Man,’ audiences can expect nothing less than greatness from this upcoming film.

‘Wolf Man,’ from the looks of it, is encouraging, and I would categorize it as one of the must-see movies of the coming months of 2025.
